Oolite (egg stone) preformed rough slab.

Origin: White Inyo Mountains north of Death Valley, California. The locality is now in the Bristlecone Pines Reserve and is off limits for collecting of any kind. This material has become very scarce.

Characteristics: Performed rough slab, smoothed on all sides, no pits or fractures. Make cabs or keep as a rare specimen. Natural rock.

This Oolytic limestone fossil algae is formed from ooids, spherical grains composed of concentric layers.

Oolites consist of ooids of diameter 0.25–2 mm. Ooids are most commonly composed of calcium carbonate (calcite or aragonite), but can be composed of phosphate, chert, dolomite or iron minerals, including hematite.

Approx size: 40 x 46 x 5 mm. Weight 107.5 ct.

An 18 mm dime and 10 mm background squares in my pictures will also help you with image sizing.

I use a full spectrum 45 w light bulb - photography photo CFL 5500K. It's a daylight balanced pure white light.

My first 2 pictures show the slabs wet, this brings out the colors you should see in a finished product.
