Prefinished rough slabs: My slabs have all or most of the pits and fractures removed and all sides smoothed with 180 diamond grit. This produces a better looking slab and makes it easier for you to produce multiple cabs and/or a finished specimen.



East Java Plume agate prefinished rough slab

Origin: East Java, Indonesia

Characteristics: Beautiful red plume agate from Indonesia. Nice rich colors of brown, red and clear quartz, unique material for unique cabs. prefinished to make it easier for you to create cabochons or finish for a specimen. This material may show some pitting and tiny fracturing because it has such a mix of material.

This Plume agate was found in late 2009 and now very scarce. It is situated within an area of restricted entry for commercial mining. Only limited quantities of plume agate show on the surface and it takes hammer and chisel to get the material out of the ground. With the 3 hour hike up rugged slopes thru small stands of the famous East Java teak it's no wonder this material is now more than really scarce. I can't find any more rough on the internet.

An 18 mm dime and 10 mm background squares in some pictures should help you with image sizing.

I use a full spectrum 45 w light bulb - photography photo CFL 5500K. It's a daylight balanced pure white light.

My first 4 pictures show the slab wet, this brings out the colors you should see in a finished product. Other pictures show items dry, this should show imperfections (small cracks or pits) if there are any. Translucent items will have at least one picture taken with a backlight.
