Solid semi-black green flashing color Australian Opal

Origin: Mintabie, Australia

Characteristics: Solid semi black (medium gray) Australian Opal from Mintabie . Green flashing color, mirror polish. No fractures or pits. Has been dry and stable for many years. I cut and polished this beautiful stone. I also see a small red area when it flashes when moving.

This will make a beautiful flashing ring or pendant.

Also known as dark opal and gray opal, semi-black opal refers to an opal that is not dark enough to be classified as black opals. Semi black opals are found mostly at Lightning Ridge, however they have also been found at Mintabie in southern Australia, my rough came from Mintabie.

Approx size: Teardrop shape, 4-10 mm x 20 mm x 4 mm, Weight: 5.4 ct.
