Rare pink Mookaite preformed rough slab, Australian Pink Opal, 40 x 46 x 4.5 mm, natural (rs7103)

Preformed rough slabs: My slabs have all or most of the pits and fractures removed and all sides smoothed with 180 diamond grit. This produces a better looking slab and makes it easier for you to produce multiple cabs and/or a finished specimen.

Pink Mookaite (Australian Pink Opal) rough slab

Origin: Near Carnarvon, Western Australia

Characteristics: Several shades of translucent pink and salmon colors, small inclusions of dark and white material. Trade name for this rare variety of Pink Mookaite is Australian Pink Opal. It comes from only 1 small small area in Western Australia. Hardness is 6-7. Polishes to a real nice luster.

This discovery in 2011 was made in the Gascoyne region, east of the coastal town of Carnarvon in Western Australia. Up until this time the only source for pink opal had been from Peru. I purchased this rough in Arizona in 2012.

Approx size: 40 x 46 x 4.5 mm. Weight: 81.5 ct.

An 18 mm dime and 10 mm background squares in some pictures should help you with image sizing.

I use a full spectrum 45 w light bulb - photography photo CFL 5500K. It's a daylight balanced pure white light.

My first 2 pictures show the slab wet, this brings out the colors you should see in a finished product. Other pictures show items dry, this should show imperfections (small cracks or pits) if there are any. Translucent items will have at least one picture taken with a backlight.
