I prefinished this slab by removing ugly pits and fractures and trimmed away anything that didn't look good. I shaped it and gave it a final 1200 diamond grit sanded smooth finish. Based on their physical makeup some end up with a really nice shine, sometimes like a mirror. If I have to leave anything in, like pits or fractures, I will mention them in the below description. This slab is nice enough to use in your designer jewelry or in your collection.

My total shipping charge is $4.99 for any number of listings you purchase. If the total is over $35 you will automatically get free shipping, also if you purchase more than 5 listings I will manually make sure you get free shipping.

SLAB DISCRIPTION:

RARE PAUL BUNYAN PLUME (Flame) AGATE, shaped and prefinished slab, 1200 diamond grit mirror finish, no pits or fractures, natural stone and colors. It's beautiful and a unique rare material. Origin: Fort Irwin Road, east of Barstow, California, it's the only known source of "Paul Bunyan Agate,". It was originally described as an intense red with branch-like inclusions in opaque white chalcedony. In this slab the finger like plumes are rising from the bottom of the slab into what looks like an angry charcoal gray sky ringed by small areas of the white cloud like chalcedony matrix. Paul Bunyan Agate was accessible to the public for collecting for many years. Info now states it was depleted long ago and is now in a private claim which is inactive.

Display it on the black plastic stand that's included or use it in your designer jewelry. This is from one of the last slabs I cut up. I have 1 more slab I am putting up for sale, I may have some small pieces, I just haven't found them yet.
Approx Size: Mound shape, 40 x 36 x 5 mm, 75 ct.

I purchased this rough more than 20 years ago from an estate sale dating back to the 60's. The tag said It came from a deposit near the Fort Irwin Road, just east of Barstow, California. It's also been called Mojave Red Plume Agate and Flame Agate.

The name "Paul Bunyan" comes from the idea that one would need the strength of the legendary lumberjack and his blue ox, Babe, to extract and break up the material.
