Chrome Chalcedony lapidary slab shaped & prefinished from rough slab, natural, mirror finish, no fractures some pits, all sides flat (25196)

I prefinished this slab by removing ugly pits and fractures and trimmed away anything that didn't look good. I shaped it and gave it a final 1200 diamond grit sanded smooth finish. Based on their physical makeup some end up with a really nice shine, sometimes like a mirror. If I have to leave anything in, like pits or fractures, I will mention them in the below description. This slab is nice enough to use in your designer jewelry or in your collection.

SLAB DISCRIPTION:

RARE CHROME CHALCEDONY from Australia. I preformed sanded and shaped it to a smooth finish, no pits or fractures, it has a beautiful mirror finish with 1200 diamond grit, the front and back are flat.  The green Chalcedony is a beautiful emerald green with inclusions. The light green matrix also takes on the chrome chalcedony color. This cab will make gorgeous jewelry or show as a beautiful specimen.

Chrome chalcedony occurs in a number of places in Western Australia. The piece displayed below came from near the town of Newman which is approximately 700 miles north of the capital, Perth.  Because this is a silicified cap rock and only found on the surface it's extremely rare.

The geological setting of the area is that of an ultramafic intrusion into granite-greenstone of Archaean age.  The intrusion consists of serpentinite that has also produced chrysoprase, chalcedony & common opal. These rock types along with the chrome chalcedony occur in the weathered , silicified cap rock. It's believed that original weathered serpentinite has been replaced through processes of silica deposition and the chrome chalcedony represents a whole-rock replacement or pseudomorph.
