Chrome Chalcedony Cabochon, all natural, translucent, mirror finish, no fractures, some small pits, flat front and back (25196)

$22.00

Shipping to United States: $4.99

I created a smooth slab, gave it a mirror shine and converted it into a cabochon with a flat front, back and sides. It has a smooth surface with several small pits in the white matrix, it's suitable for jewelry. We prefinish our lapidary slabs by trimming away anything that doesn't look good, and we give it a final 1200 diamond grit sanded smooth finish. Based on the cabs physical makeup, they end up with a nice glow, or a bright or mirror shine. If I have to leave anything in, like pits or fractures, I will mention them in their description.

My shipping charge is $4.99 for any number of listings, if the total is over $35 you get free shipping. Current discount is 25% off any cabochon.

It's hard to take pictures that show true beauty, we know you will be pleased if you make a purchase. If the cab is displayed on a plastic stand it is included free of charge.

CAB DESCRIPTION:

RARE CHROME CHALCEDONY from Australia. I preformed sanded and shaped it to a smooth finish, no pits or fractures, it has a beautiful mirror finish with 1200 diamond grit, the front and back are flat.  The green Chalcedony is a beautiful emerald green with inclusions. The light green matrix also takes on the chrome chalcedony color. This cab will make gorgeous jewelry or show as a beautiful specimen.

Approx size: 24 x 34 x 5.5 mm, Weight: 34.5 ct

Chrome chalcedony occurs in a number of places in Western Australia. The piece displayed below came from near the town of Newman which is approximately 700 miles north of the capital, Perth.  Because this is a silicified cap rock and only found on the surface it's extremely rare.

The geological setting of the area is that of an ultramafic intrusion into granite-greenstone of Archaean age.  The intrusion consists of serpentinite that has also produced chrysoprase, chalcedony & common opal. These rock types along with the chrome chalcedony occur in the weathered , silicified cap rock. It's believed that original weathered serpentinite has been replaced through processes of silica deposition and the chrome chalcedony represents a whole-rock replacement or pseudomorph.
