Sorry, this item has sold.

I created a smooth slab, gave it a beautiful shine and converted it into a cabochon with a flat front, back and sides. It has a smooth surface without pits and open fractures making it suitable for jewelry or a specimen. We prefinish our lapidary slabs by trimming away anything that doesn't look good, and we give it a final 1200 diamond grit sanded smooth finish. Based on their makeup, they end up with a nice glow, or a bright or mirror shine. If I have to leave anything in, like pits or fractures, I will mention them in the below description.

My shipping charge is $4.99 for any number of listings, if the total is over $35 you get free shipping. Current discount is 25% off any cabochon.

It's hard to take pictures that show true beauty, we know you will be pleased if you make a purchase. If the cab is displayed on a plastic stand it is included free of charge.

CAB DESCRIPTION:

SLAB CHARACTERISTICS:

Rare Chrome Chalcedony from Australia. I preformed sanded and shaped it smooth, no pits or open fractures, the lines you see on the front and back are naturally sealed fractures, this slab is smoothed to a mirror finish, flat front and back. The chalcedony is a beautiful emerald green with inclusions. The light green matrix also takes on the chrome chalcedony color.

Approx sizes:
Large triangle, 24 x 40 x 6 mm, 45.5 ct, a couple tiny pits on the back
Small triangle, 24 x 34 x 5 mm, 34.5 ct.
Oval, 22 x 31 x 5 mm, 35 ct.
Designer cut, 22 x 35 x 5 mm, 32.5 ct.

Chrome chalcedony occurs in a number of places in Western Australia. The piece displayed below came from near the town of Newman which is approximately 700 miles north of the capital, Perth.  Because this is a silicified cap rock and only found on the surface it's now extremely rare.

The geological setting of the area is that of an ultramafic intrusion into granite-greenstone of Archaean age.  The intrusion consists of serpentinite that has also produced chrysoprase, chalcedony & common opal. These rock types along with the chrome chalcedony occur in the weathered , silicified cap rock. It's believed that original weathered serpentinite has been replaced through processes of silica deposition and the chrome chalcedony represents a whole-rock replacement or pseudomorph.
