Rare Peanut Wood lapidary slab, shaped & prefinished, mirror finish, all sides flat, brown white mirror finish, no pits no fractures (25186)

I prefinished this slab by removing ugly pits and fractures and trimmed away anything that didn't look good. I shaped it and gave it a final 1200 diamond grit sanded smooth finish. Based on their physical makeup some end up with a really nice shine, sometimes like a mirror. If I have to leave anything in, like pits or fractures, I will mention them in the below description. This slab is nice enough to use in your designer jewelry or in your collection.

PEANUT WOOD (Teredo castings) shaped and polished slab, mirror finish, brown and creme colored, mound shape, Rare petrified driftwood. No pits or open fractures. No enhancements. Peanut Wood is a rare and beautiful petrified wood from Australia. Rare because it is rarely mined, mainly because it required heavy equipment and the lack of water at the location. The lighter areas of the stone are made by a marine wood-boring bivalve named Teredo.

This is an ancient drift wood that sank to the mud at the bottom of the ocean and remained for millions of years. as a drift wood it is now found along the edges of the Kennedy Ranges about 100 miles inland from the coastal town of Carnarvon, Western Australia. The geological formation found in makes it around 120 million years old. The wood is of several varieties, the main ones being "Araucaria"...a conifer & podocarp, called Peanut wood because it resembled peanuts.
