Lapidary slabs preformed by DesignsbyShirl in Windsor, Calif. My small to medium slabs are rare, scarce or unique and one of a kind. They are preformed by sanding and shaping them. They have flat backs and fronts, all sides are smoothed with 600 diamond grit to make it easier for you to finish. SLAB CHARACTERISTICS:

Rare Chrome Chalcedony from Australia. I preformed sanded and shaped it smooth, no pits or open fractures, the lines you see on the front and back are naturally sealed fractures, this slab is smoothed to a mirror finish, flat front and back.  Plastic stand is included.   The chalcedony is a beautiful emerald green with inclusions. The light green matrix also takes on the chrome chalcedony color.  Approx size: 32 x (5-51) x 5 mm, 65 ct.

Chrome chalcedony occurs in a number of places in Western Australia. The piece displayed below came from near the town of Newman which is approximately 700 miles north of the capital, Perth.  Because this is a silicified cap rock and only found on the surface it's now extremely rare.

The geological setting of the area is that of an ultramafic intrusion into granite-greenstone of Archaean age.  The intrusion consists of serpentinite that has also produced chrysoprase, chalcedony & common opal. These rock types along with the chrome chalcedony occur in the weathered , silicified cap rock. It's believed that original weathered serpentinite has been replaced through processes of silica deposition and the chrome chalcedony represents a whole-rock replacement or pseudomorph.

Use my pictures with the 10 x 10 mm background squares and the 18 mm dime to help with size visualization. All pictures show a slab that has been given a nice glow or bright polish from 600-1500 diamond grit, some even have a mirror polish.

I try to eliminate all the pits and open fractures and I smooth all sides. I will note anything I couldn't remove. Your going to get a slab that is going to be easy to finish or use asis. I preform the slabs by sanding and shaping them with 120 to 600 diamond grit and sometimes up to 1500 grit, by removing all grit lines before the next stage in sanding gives the slab a superior looking finish and makes it ready for the next step. My preform really helps you cut down the time it takes you to finish these slabs. No waste to deal with.
