AGATE slab, preformed, translucent, 16 x 34 x 6.5 mm, 40.5 ct, designer shape, gray, cream blue and brown colors, natural stone, no pits or fractures, don't know which slab I cut this from, origin unknown

DENDRITIC AGATE, preformed, 20 x 32 x 3 mm, 17 ct, gray, cream, brown colors, natural stone, no pits or fractures, thin cut, from Australia

RUTILATED SMOKY QUARTZ, preformed, translucent, 20 x 23 x 7 mm, 32.5 ct, titanium rutiles, tear drop shape, from Brazil

BOULDER OPAL MATRIX, rectangle shape 25 x 20 x 5.5 mm, 40 ct, brown, reddish brown, yellow colors, natural, no fire opal in this matrix, nice picture with the sun peeking over the hills, from Australia. .

Pictures are taken with 10 x 10 mm background squares and a 18 mm dime. All pictures are taken wet except the last 2 which are taken dry. Wet shows the colors you should get after a slab is polished, dry will show imperfections if there are any. I will note anything in the descriptions that I couldn't remove.

I eliminate most of the pits and open fractures and I smooth the front, back and sides. This gives you a slab that is easy to finish, as a cab or specimen.. I preform the slabs by sanding and shaping them with 120 to 180 diamond grit so the're ready for you to finish with a finer grit and polish. All sides are flat.

If you want to finish the slab(s) my recommendation is to start with 600 diamond grit, if 600 doesn't remove all grit lines on the slab, work your way back in grits and use (320, or 240) and then 600 to remove all grit lines, finish with 1000 grit before polishing. Pictures are taken wet and dry, all are wet except the last 2, wet ones bring out the colors you should see in a finished product, dry ones should show any imperfections, small fractures or pits, ect.. Any imperfections left in the slab will be identified in its description. My pictures are taken with a daylight balanced pure white light bulb.
