Wah Wah Mt. Red Beryl crystal on white Rhyolite matrix.

Origin: Ruby-Violet Red Beryl Mine, Wah Wah Mountains, Utah

Colors: Pink to Red and white.

Material: Red Beryl and Rhyolite

Characteristics: This is a fine example of Red Beryl on a white Rhyolite matrix. Not facet grade but nice specimen grade material. Found at the Ruby-Violet Gold and Silver mine in the Wah Wah Mountains. The 9 claims at the mine have always be off limits to collecting, it went dormant and the land reclaimed many years ago. Red Beryl is only found in the Western US, with the majority occurring in the Wah Wah Mountains, Beaver County, Utah. These crystals are rarely found as large crystals, they average around a centimeter in size (10 mm). All my specimens contain only small crystals and most times they may be broken and probably not facet grade. A lot of the crystals are partially covered with the Rhyolite matrix, I'm sure scraping away the Rhyolite will expose more crystal. I have more of this material available, see my last picture (taken dry), if interested send me a note.

In 2012 the Ruby-Violet Red Beryl Mine was an open-pit operation. The red beryl crystals were randomly distributed in the white Rhyolite host rock. Tons of host rock were drilled, blasted, and moved in search of fractures where red beryl crystals might occur. After a large-scale exploratory work, the open pit workings were filled and the surface restored with native vegetation. From 2012 little or no red beryl was being mined from this area. Rumors has it they may start up again with new owners. Actually I've seen them showing and collecting the stones in an open pit mine,ruby violet mine Utah they maybe the new owners I really don't know.
