Dendritic Opal (Merlinite) 2lb 6oz specimen

Origin: Australia

Characteristics: Large rough specimen, white Quartzite and black Manganese dendrites, natural stone, moss like dendrites. A great looking specimen as is or you could cut it for a lot beautiful slabs or cabs.

I purchased this more than 10 years ago from an Australian dealer in Tucson.

There is confusion about what they are calling this material. Its real name is Merlinite but most call it Dendritic Opal mainly because of the opalescence (chatoyancy) in the white Quartzite, and the manganese (moss like) dendrites.

Approx size: 4 1/2" x 4 1/2 x 3", weight: 2 lb, 6 oz.

10 mm background squares in my pictures will also help you with image sizing.

I use a full spectrum 45 w light bulb - photography photo CFL 5500K. It's a daylight balanced pure white light.
